Constantly Evolving, for Over 100 Years
The building that now houses the Albergo Croce Bianca was originally built by Francesco and Bernardo Ragazzi, nephews of Rodolfo Ragazzi, for tobacco processing. Francesco later tried to open a magnetic clinic but had to sell the property to Lorenzo Lardelli, who turned it into a hotel. The management was then taken over by the Badrutt family, who decided to name the hotel Badrutt.
After a period of frequent management changes, the hotel was purchased by hotelier Mathias Schmid from Pontresina, who renamed it Hotel Weisses Kreuz. Later, Domenico Pitschen, husband of Edina Schmid, took over management until his death in 1932. Edina continued with the help of Fredy Klein, a lawyer who moved to Poschiavo in 1937 with his wife Marilli. After Fredy's death in 1953, Edina ran the hotel together with Klein’s widow. When Edina passed away in 1956, Marilli took over the management and continued until 1979.
That same year, Sincero Lardi from Poschiavo bought the hotel, renamed it Albergo Croce Bianca, and asked Marilli Klein to manage it, but she declined. Lardi then sold it to the Zanolari brothers.
Between October 1979 and June 1980, the building was fully renovated. Since then, the Albergo Croce Bianca has been run by the Zanolari family, who have regularly carried out major structural and architectural upgrades.
The latest expansion project, initiated in September 2023, includes the renovation of the former Casa Braun – now called Cà Badrutt, in homage to the hotel’s historic name – transformed into a complex of five new holiday apartments. The project, scheduled for completion in summer 2025, also includes the extension of the rooms on the south side of the hotel, a new terrace and, last but not least, a new Spa with relax pool, sauna, steam bath, and rooms for massages.
